Seen Unseen
Seen Unseen synthesizes my fascination with the urban world of New York City and my experiences as an eco artist. I see connections to the world of nature in the abstract textures of city surfaces. I am inspired by the peeling paint and paper of Chelsea construction walls, the shadows on sidewalks and the random cracks on crosswalks. The floral tributes strewn on the mosaic stones of the John Lennon Imagine Memorial in Central Park speak to me of the organic and changing metamorphosis of life.
I feel that the stimulating wealth of textures, colors, shapes and lines of city surfaces reveals visual surprises and insights that can enhance the unseen world within each of us. If we really take the time to see, we can enrich our appreciation of the visual world we live in, wherever that may be.
Media
I work with various acrylic media, torn and crushed paper, and sand to create textured paintings that become references to natural forms and landscape. I use both a brush and a palette knife, layering and scraping the surfaces.
