Bio Highlights

Marian Osher has lived in Montgomery County, Maryland most of her life. She received her BA from the University of Maryland and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from George Marian OsherWashington University. Osher's artwork has been shown in numerous exhibits in the U.S. as well as in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Museum of Modern Art in Argentina and shows in Brazil, Belgium and India. She has had ten solo shows since 1987. She has been represented by the Washington Printmakers Gallery since 1985, and Ceres Gallery and CAN Contemporary Art Network (formerly MIWAA) in New York City since 2005. In addition to working as a full time artist, Osher is a private art instructor who has guided many students in college art portfolio development and helped them to launch careers in various fields of art.

A stone lithographer for many years, Osher has chosen to create monotypes, monoprints, and paintings using water-soluble environmentally friendly media since 2000. Osher developed a series of jewel-toned mandalas about the universal connections of diverse cultures. In 2004 she created a body of artwork that explores the connection between kaleidoscopic images and music. Her newest artwork highlights diverse environmental issues.

Osher feels that her art has helped her to become a more spiritual person, enabling her ”to feel the connection that we have with each other and with nature.”

Time spent in Yellowstone with her son Josh introduced her to the plight of the Yellowstone Buffalo. Whenever she can, Osher volunteers in the Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) in West Yellowstone, MT. She has also created artwork to enhance awareness and appreciation for the Yellowstone Buffalo.

Her experience with the BFC also fueled her desire to learn more about diverse environmental issues. She highlighted some of these environmental red flags in “Earth Matters”, a solo show of monotype prints. “Dream Quest”, her solo show at Ceres Gallery in the Chelsea art district of New York City, links environmental issues with spiritual connections.
